Panasonic RP-HJE350-K Review by SeanQ

Having been listening to my ipod with the included headphones for so long, I figured that all in-ear headphones sounded pretty crappy and couldn't pick up bass. When those broke I bought these and WOW, theres a huge difference! Everything sounds much cleaner and it picks up a much higher range of sounds that couldn't even be heard before. Also, the shape of them is a much better design than the standard ipod headphones, they are more comfortable and are VERY secure, they won't fall out when you go running. I wish I would have upgraded a long time ago, . These are a lot better than I expected for the price. Might not be for the hardcore audiophiles, but for around $20 it's definitely worth it to upgrade your ipod headphones to something that doesn't sound like garbage.

These are typical in-ear headphones that are intended to more or less seal off the ear canal. I find them to be fairly comfortable for up to an hour, which is about my limit for any brand of this type. The behind-the-neck strain relief gizmo could hold onto the wires a little tighter, but otherwise works well. Wind noise (faint whistling) is normally drowned out by program material. As for the sound, I find it to be exceptionally clear, with a fairly hot high end above 5 kHz, but clean and unfatiguing. A few commenters complained about lack of bass. I checked this out subjectively with my ears and a signal generator, and the response seemed quite smooth and even from mid-range frequencies down to 100 Hz and below, with a roll-off below 30 Hz. So the bass is not exaggerated and may not satisfy hip-hop heads, but is most assuredly there except for the near-infrasonic. Probably about as good as any earbud is going to be in the deep bass. In summary, for casual MP3-player use, which is what I bought them for, these little phones provide admirable sound quality and have so far (several weeks) not fallen apart or anything.

I lost the buds on my other Panasonic ear phones, which were a fantastic value at under $20, so rather than spend half that money replacing the buds, I went for these, which are a higher model up. The look and feel (design) with these are noticeably better than the last pair, and the sound quality is crisp and balanced making it a great value at this price point. The biggest sell for me however is the low profile of the buds once firmly secured in your ear canal. I wear these a lot for snowboarding and cycling, and with the bulkier ear buds, wind noise is a major factor.
